We detected no slivers after mapjoining and the number of unique census blocks in the final coverage matches the official number from the Census Bureau. We projected the entire statewide coverage into Teale Albers projection.
Data from the SF1 file joined to the .PAT with no unmatched records.
Some block boundary arcs are hydrography or road features. We maintained the TLID from TIGER so that the arcs can be linked to the arc feature databases. Because adjacent counties had duplicate county arcs, only one arc was maintained and attributes from the two arcs were merged. The remaining arc was assigned a NEW_TLID (the negative ID of one of the original arcs). This new ID will be relatable to the statewide TIGER Hydro and Roads coverages when those are complete.

* AREALAND contains the area of the entire block (unique LOGRECNO). Thus, if the block is composed of two or more polygons, AREALAND will not agree with the calculated AREA measurement of the individual polygons. Units for AREALAND and AREAWATR have been converted to square miles from the original square meters in the SF1 table.
FIELD NAME: LOGRECNO and FIPS_CTBL
Unique identifier for the smallest statistical and geographic unit captured by Census. FIPS_CTBL is a concatenation of FIPS STATE CODE + COUNTY FIPS CODE + TRACT CODE + BLOCKGROUP CODE + BLOCK CODE. FIPS_CTBL has a one to one relationship with LOGRECNO. LOGRECNO is the unique key field used by Census in the SF1 attribute table.
FIELD NAME: COUSUB
County subdivisions are the primary divisions of counties and statistically equivalent entities for data presentation purposes. They include census county divisions, census subareas, minor civil divisions (MCDs), unorganized territories, and incorporated places that are independent of any MCD. Each county subdivision is assigned a five-digit Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) code in alphabetical order within each state.
FIELD NAME: PLACE
Places, for the reporting of decennial census data, include census designated places (CDP), consolidated cities, and incorporated places. Each place is assigned a five-digit Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) code in alphabetical order within each state. For more information see <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/cob/pl_metadata.html>
FIELD NAME: PLACE_NAME and PLACE_TYPE
PLACE_NAME and PLACE_TYPE were pulled from the Census data file <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/places2k.zip>. The terms 'CDP', 'city', and 'town' were removed from the NAME field of this table and placed into the PLACE_TYPE field. For more information see <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/places2k.html>
FIELD NAME: UA
For Census 2000, the Census Bureau classifies as "urban" all territory, population, and housing units located within an urbanized area (UA) or an urban cluster (UC). It delineates UA and UC boundaries to encompass densely settled territory, which consists of:
- core census block groups or blocks that have a population density of at least 1,000 people per square mile and
- surrounding census blocks that have an overall density of at least 500 people per square mile
In addition, under certain conditions, less densely settled territory may be part of each UA or UC. The Census Bureau's classification of "rural" consists of all territory, population, and housing units located outside of UAs and UCs. The rural component contains both place and nonplace territory. Geographic entities, such as census tracts, counties, metropolitan areas, and the territory outside metropolitan areas, often are "split" between urban and rural territory, and the population and housing units they contain often are partly classified as urban and partly classified as rural.
Each place is assigned a five-digit Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) code in alphabetical order for the entire U.S. For more information see <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/ua/ua_2k.html>
FIELD NAME: UA_NAME and UA_TYPE
UA_NAME and UA_TYPE were derived from the Census data files <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/ua/uc_state_corr.txt> and <http://www.census.gov/geo/www/ua/ua_state_corr.txt>.
