US Forest Service - Inyo National Forest

Mission:

  • Consolidation of ownership and removal of in-holdings where possible.
  • Disposal of lands which have lost their National Forest character.
  • Conveyance of lands to local and state goverments, whenever possible.
  • Acquire high priority parcels with high resource value that require further protection.
  • Desire to retain some USFS property in community areas for the purpose of employee housing.
  • Achieve the overall Forest Plan objectives.

Needs:
  • Increase the efficiency of US Forest Service land management.
  • Establish and maintain employee housing within community areas surrounding Forest infrastructure.

Constraints:
  • Lack of staff time and money required to process multiple year land exchanges.
  • Environmental constraints, including hige resource value issues.
  • Required to acquire land only within the existing National Forest boundary.
Miscellaneous Notes:

Community needs can only be addressed if that community area is within the National Forest Boundary.
